A foremost socio-political group in Akwa Ibom State, the New Breed for Sustainable Development, has unveiled plans to train no fewer than 10,000 youths in various skills.
A member of the Board of Trustees of the group, Mr. Ukeme Nyah, who also doubles as the spokesman for the entrepreneurship training made the revelation in Uyo, said the skill acquisition training will accommodate youths from the thirty one Local Government Areas of the State.
He cited areas of the training to include catering, tailoring, hairdressing , make-over and gele tying, shoe making, ICT, fashion and design, photography and videography etc.
Nyah further disclosed that beneficiaries of the free training scheme will be trained in batches and will be equipped with startup tools/seed capital at the end of the training.
“The idea behind the training is to equip people, especially, youths with practical skills so they can earn a living, instead of depending on others. The training is inline with Governor Udom Emmanuel’s Dakkada Initiative to ensure youths are self-reliant”, he said.
Nyah pointed out that the group was also poised to transform the mindsets of young Akwa Ibomites to become agents of sustainability and development and to enshrine the culture entrepreneurship towards making Akwa Ibom State a preferred destination.
“We hope to be agents of transformation, development and good governance, to promote our heritage and values while instilling the spirit of craftsmanship, promoting industrialization and entrepreneurship”, he said.
